The Woodside Regeneration project
was led by the Borough of Telford & Wrekin, in partnership
with The Wrekin Housing Trust, English Partnerships, Advantage
West Midlands and the Housing Corporation. The huge demolition
project took over twelve months to complete and was split
into two phases of which Connell Brothers won both of the
competitive tenders. The works included for asbestos removal
and demolition of over 400 1 to 4 bedroom flats and over
300 garages.
Throughout the works Connell Brothers demonstrated
a very professional and competent approach to the works
in all departments. The safety of local residents, children
in the adjacent school and the elderly residents in the
adjacent nursing home were of paramount importance to Connell
Brothers. Over 35, 000 tonnes of material was recycled on
site during the Telford Contracts. Not one complaint was
received from the surrounding residential communities.
The high profile project required a great
deal of detailed planning, including liaison with all parties
involved and also members of the Royal Protection Squad
for the Royal Visit of Prince Phillip who opened the first
phase of the works. Connell Brothers worked in a co-operative
and pro-active manner to ensure that the works took place
with the minimum of disruption to the local environment
and without any accident or incident. The works were run
in a conflict free non adversarial climate.
Our company’s commitment and culture
to Health Safety and the Environment is second to none and
we continue to maintain our unblemished record throughout
all of our contracts. All such works are always completed
on time to full client satisfaction without accident or
incident.
The Management called for regular Safety Audits of the site,
weekly Tool Box Talks with regards to safety, regular Method
Statement Induction courses for all Operatives on site,
fortnightly Progress and Safety Meetings with Babtie the
clients representative. Regular auditing was undertaken
to ensure that the Project Management procedures were followed.
The 12 Month Project was completed on time to the client’s
full satisfaction with no injuries, accidents, or incident
to members of staff or the public.
